Outpatient Services For Adolescents
Our services are designed for youth ages 12 – 18, and focus on the emotional, behavioral and social needs using a mind-body approach to treatment. The overall goal of the programs is to support youth in identifying strategies they and their families can use to cope with the unique challenges they face.
Partial Hospitalization Program
Palo Verde Behavioral Health’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a medically-supervised psychiatric program that offers comprehensive, clinical services for individuals experiencing increased symptoms, behavioral disturbances or other conditions negatively impacting mental and behavioral function in their daily lives without requiring around-the-clock psychiatric care. The purpose of PHP is to evaluate and treat psychiatric concerns and/or to help prevent relapse or the need for hospitalization. Participants in this program must not pose an immediate risk to themselves or others. This level of psychiatric care functions as an alternative to inpatient care, as transitional care following an inpatient stay, in lieu of continued hospitalization, as a step-down service, or when the severity of symptoms is such that success in a less acute level of care is tenuous.
Using a group therapy model, the program actively engages patients in the process of learning more about their disorders, developing effective coping and interpersonal skills, and safely and effectively reintegrating back into their community. Through discussions, skill practices, role-playing, and other activities, the program fosters patient competence in such aspects of daily living as: medication adherence and education; goal setting; coping effectively; stress management; interpersonal relationship sand social interactions; managing time and expectations; community living; and more.
In PHP, patients attend five hours a day, Monday through Friday. All therapy is provided by a Masters-level clinical supervised by the clinical director. This includes four hours of clinical group therapy, nursing assessments, and lunch. Each patient will have weekly meetings with the Psychiatrist/Nurse Practitioner; medication education is provided to help patients better understand their medication, diagnosis and related issues that could be affecting their overall mental health. Patients also actively participate in dietary group and activity groups including art therapy, yoga and mindfulness-based activities.
Intensive Outpatient Program
Similar to our PHP program, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers group therapy services for individuals experiencing increased symptoms, behavioral disturbances or other conditions negatively impacting mental and behavioral function in their daily lives, but at in a less supervised structure. Patients meet for 3 hours each session with 3 sessions per week. Successful graduates from the program completed between 8 and 12 weeks (21 and 24 sessions) within the Intensive program. Group sessions are facilitated by a Masters-level therapist and supervised by the clinical director.
Therapeutic topics include skills learning, emotional processing, activity therapy, and expressive therapies. Services take place in a group setting to allow youth to learn from others, gain support, and accomplish their recovery goals. We address their health and wellness needs within a positive and affirming environment.
Goals include stress management, distress tolerance, decreasing self-harm, improving relationships and interpersonal skills, expand effective a healthy social and communication skills, increase knowledge about physical and emotional wellness, developing skills to cope without substances, increasing self-confidence and self-esteem, and more.
